 Už dlouhá léta miluji atmosféru starých opuštěných katedrál. Procházím se mezi klenutými oblouky, naslouchám dávným příběhům. Čtu si ve freskách, čichám zatuchlinu hrobek. Slyším tichý šepot věřících, potřebuji zklidnit svoji mysl. Otáčím volume na svém přehrávači a nechávám se unášet na vlnách nové desky PAGAN ALTAR.

 Doom heavy metaloví mohykáni, s úžasným vokálem mistra Terryho Jonese, který již bohužel není mezi námi. Příběh jedné legendy, hudba z vyšších sfér, magická esence okultních obřadů. Zhudebněné ozvěny, příběhy ze záhrobí. "The Room Of Shadows" ke mě promlouvá vznešeně a kovově.


"The Room Of Shadows" je dílem ze starých dobrých časů, u poslechu zavzpomínáme na MANILLA ROAD, BLACK SABBATH, CIRITH UNGOL, PENTAGRAM, TROUBLE. Album je ošetřeno perfektním zvukem i obalem. Hlavní je ale hudební obsah a tady si nejde novinku nezamilovat. Připomíná mi rozjímání nad ohmatanými gramodeskami. PAGAN ALTAR v sobě mají neskutečnou sílu, jiskřivost temných stínů. Jsou smutní, připomínají mi chorály z podsvětí. Riffy až bolestivě řežou, rozkládají mě na malé částečky, aby mě následně zase slepili v ledový celek. Vždycky se budu klanět podobným kapelám, vždycky budu našlapovat tiše, když začnou hrát. Album mám již dlouho v předních řadách své soukromé diskografie. Povedlo se na výbornou. Heavy doomový křišťál, vybroušený k dokonalosti. Úžasná deska!

Doom heavy metal Mohicans with great vocal of Terry Jones who sadly is no longer with us. A story of one legend, music from the higher spheres, the magic essence of occult ceremonies. Musical echoes, stories from the world beyond. “The Room Of Shadows” goes to me so majestically and metal.

“The Room Of Shadows” is an album of the ancient times and when you listen to this album you will remember bands like MANILLA ROAD, BLACK SABBATH, CIRITH UNGOL, PENTAGRAM, TROUBLE. The album has a great sound and cover. But the most important thing is the music content and you cannot help yourself but love this album. It feels like contemplation about old LPs. PAGAN ALTAR have an unbelievable great power and sparkle of dark shadows. They are sad, seem like chores from the world beyond. The riffs cut with pain, they break me up into small pieces to then put me together again into one frozen piece. I will always bow to similar bands, I will always worship similar bands, I will always idle quietly when they start to play. This album has been in the first lines of my personal discography. It is excellent. Heavy doom crystal which is polished to its perfection. Amazing album!

 Běžím mlhou dál, srážejí se mi na tvářích studené kapky ledové vody. Nevidím, neslyším, jsem ztracen v nekonečném lese zapomnění. Nejednou strom, opuštěný a holý jako neštěstí. Na něm visí oběšenec. Jazyk vyplazený, tělo svěšené a točící se v lehkých poryvech větru. Zastavím se, otřesu mrazem v zádech. Otočí ke mě svoji mrtvolnou tvář, vytřeští oči do temnoty a promluví jasně a zřetelně. Krve by se ve mě nedořezal.

 Běžím dál a pořád poslouchám novou desku německých THE SPIRIT. Ti letos debutují se svým albem "Sounds From The Vorte". Přijměte prosím pozvánku do samého pekla, podávat se bude oheň, síra, smrt a black death metal.


"Sounds From The Vorte" jsem poslouchal rád a často. Hovoří ke mě řečí, které rozumím. S odkazy na polskou i norskou metalovou školu. S obrovskou porcí temnoty navíc. S ledovým otiskem v motivech, se šílenstvím a prázdnotou opuštěných hrobů. THE SPIRIT nejsou ničím výjimeční, ani stylotvorní, ale předkládaný materiál je na velmi vysoké úrovni. A to jak po stránce skladatelské, tak i zvukové a produkční. Sklady odsýpají rychle a zběsile, s nezbytným chladem a černotou. Slyším, že Němci jsou své záhrobní práci plně oddáni a zcela je pohlcuje. Z alba je to cítit a já nemohu jinak, než hodnotit velmi vysoko. Ano, takhle zní peklo! Skvělý black death metal, který vás vezme na nekonečný výlet na onen svět!

I am running in the fog, drops of frozen water are condensing on my cheeks. I cannot see nor hear, I am lost in an endless forest of oblivion. Suddenly, there is a tree, abandoned and bare as a misfortune. There is a hanged man on it. His tongue is out of his mouth, his body hangs and spins in the slight wind. I stop and shake with the frost behind me. The man turns his dead face to me, he spreads his eyes to the darkness and he clearly speaks. I cannot move. 

I go further and I still listen to the new album German THE SPIRIT. This year they released their album “Sounds From The Vorte”. Please, accept the invitation to the Hell, you will taste the fire, sulphur, death and black death metal. 

I have been listening to the album “Sounds From The Vorte” many times and I really enjoyed it. It speaks to me with the language I do understand. There are links to Polish and Norwegian metal schools. With a huge portion of darkness. With an ice mark in the motives, with the madness and emptiness of abandoned graves. THE SPIRIT are nothing extraordinary or stylistic but the material they do is on very high level of music. And not only on the case of composing, sound and also production. The songs goes really nicely, fast and frantically with the necessary portion of coldness and blackness. I can hear that those Germans are fully devoted to their graveyard job and it completely absorbs them. And this is what you can clearly hear from their album and I cannot do anything else, just to give it high marks. Yes, this is how the hell sounds! Great black death metal which will take you on an endless trip to the other world!

 Kladivo musí bít, dokud to jde. To je stará známá metalová poučka. Vytanula mi na mysli, když jsem viděl "budovatelský obal" nové desky britských DYSCARNATE. Kapela, která nám opět předkládá zahuštěný, moderním způsobem zahraný death metal šmrncnutý thrashem. Při poslechu člověk zavzpomíná na PYREXII, DYING FETUS, MISERY INDEX, ale i třeba JUNGLE ROT. Pánové jdou ale dál, umně do svých skladeb vkládají melodické, temné prvky. Novinka je tak velmi chutným soustem, energetickým nápojem plným toho nejostřejšího koření. Samozřejmě s nezbytnou iontovou náplní. DYSCARNATE jsou na mě v některých momentech až příliš "sekající", ale musím uznat, že jako celek nová deska funguje velmi dobře.


Je ale také pravdou, že "With All Their Might" občas ztrácí na tlaku. Jakoby se kapela rozmýšlela a nevěděla co hrát dál. Ve výsledku jsou to ale jen drobnosti, kousky krvavé skelné vaty, které mi nejdou pozřít. Může to být ale jen můj subjektivní pocit, to nezastírám. DYSCARNATE jsou dokonalí po zvukové stránce, po technické, po produkční. Jen mi chybí trošku té živočišnosti. Takový ten moment, kdy si řeknete:"Jo, to je přesně ono!" Nejvíc se mi nakonec stejně líbí, když hrají thrashové pasáže, ty totiž mají v sobě nejvíc kopajících efektů. Desku bych tedy doporučil spíše mladším ročníkům, kteří zajisté ocení album přeci jen trošku víc, než já, starý pes. Moderní death metal zahraný s občasnými výpadky vědomí. Dobrá, solidní nahrávka, které chvílemi nekouše.


sumarizace:

DYSCARNATE letos přicházejí s opravdu velmi dobrým materiálem. Jejich kombinace deathu a temnoty dělá mým uším více než dobře. Nejedná se sice o nic nového, ani objevného, ale jsem nadmíru spokojen. Líbí se mi jak zvuk, tak celková nálada alba, které řeže ostře a nekompromisně. "With All Their Might" mi připomíná atmosféru válečné vřavy. Všude kolem leží tisíce mrtvých a do ticha zní morbidní tóny DYSCARNATE. Hudba je zde velmi poctivá, jdoucí přímo od srdce. Osobně nejvíc oceňuji, že je nahrávka uvěřitelná, reálná a šíleně návyková. Svět je někdy bláznivý, ale novinka Britů je ještě šílenější. Desku si vyloženě užívám a přehrávám ji velmi často a rád. Death metalová nálož, která je syrová jako samotná válka!

 This year´s album by DYSCARNATE is a very good material. Their combination of death and darkness brings more than a good music to my ears. This is not something new or unusual, however I´m very satisfied and happy. I like the sound and the whole mood of this album which is sharp and it cuts easily and stoutly. "With All Their Might" reminds me an atmosphere of a war babel. All around there are thousands of death people and in the quiet place you can hear the morbid tones by DYSCARNATE. The music is very respectable and it comes right from the heart. Personally I appreciate that the record is very believable, real and very addictive. The world is crazy sometime, however the new album by British guys is even crazier. I really enjoy this album and I listen to it very often and gladly. The death metal load which is raw like a war itself!

 Hniloba v našich srdcích. Strach v očích. Zápach rozkládajících se těl padlých andělů. Smrt má mnoho podob a tentokrát je nechutná jako samo nebe. Hoďte do větráku kusy zkaženého masa, zavřete se na sto let do staré kobky a pak pochopíte. Pochopíte hudbu black thrashových špinavců INVOCATION SPELLS.

 Kořeny vytržené krvavě ze země, způsobem, jakým to dělávali HELLHAMMER, PERVERSOR, SLAUGHTBBATH, stará SEPULTURA, SARCÓFAGO. Samozřejmě s punkovým odérem a speed metalovými ozvěnami. Takoví jsou INVOCATION SPELLS.



Hodnotit podobné zasmrádlé metalové nechutnosti nemůžete okem dnešního posluchače. Už jen ten zvuk nebo mokvající černota, které ze skladeb doslova čiší, vás hodí o hodně let zpátky. Budete najednou doslova nasávat atmosféru znesvěcených katedrál, opuštěných, dávno vykradených hrobů. Nasáknete černotou, dotknete se kostnatých rukou samotné smrti. Chilané hrají po svém, ortodoxně a ve mě evokují svojí temnou energií jen samé příjemně studené pocity. Vždyť co může být lepšího, než volume pořádně doprava, obrácený kříž na domácím oltáři a svíce plápolající černým plamenem rouhání. INVOCATION SPELLS hrají jednoduše, jdou až někam k samým základům black/thrash metalu. Jsem navýsost spokojen, má krev je totiž stejně zkažená. Prašivina! Smrt! Peklo! Skvěle!

INVOCATION SPELLS jsou jako zlo z dávných dob. Archivní black thrashové postupy, rezavý zvuk, touha zničit tenhle svět. Tohle všechno v jejich novince "The Flame of Hate" slyším. Album je určeno pro všechny hudební patrioty, pro milovníky starých časů. Hudba je to jednoduchá, zákeřná, ale má v sobě velkou sílu a energii. Berte a nebo nechte být. Dejte si pivo a nic neřešte! Na hromadě plesnivých kostí stojí chilské komando INVOCATION SPELLS a snaží se nám vysvětlit, že peklo opravdu existuje. Věřím jim to! Black/thrash metal, který je plesnivý jako stará rakev! Ďábelský rituál!

 Byl umíchán další smrtící koktejl. Z těch nejtemnějších a nejmrazivějších přísad. Přidány byly do death metalu thrashové prvky, občasné blackové skřehotání. Výsledkem je kalich plný hořkosti, chladu, strachu a smrti. Piji z něj poslední dobou často a velmi rád. Němečtí death metalisté DISCREATION jsou zde s novým albem "End of Days". Spálí vás na popel.

 Novinka je v rámci stylu nebývale pestrým albem. Drásá mě, bolí, koluje mi jako nějaký ostrý jed v žilách. Připadám si, že stojím na vrcholku opuštěné skály a můj obličej je bičován ledovými melodiemi. Mám sto chutí skočit. Padám do propasti, padám do temnoty, padám do nicoty. Tuhle desku z hlavy jen tak nevyženu.



 Na "End of Days" je znát, že za ním stojí zkušení muzikanti. Má velmi dobrý zvuk, čitelné všechny nástroje, přesto je náležitě špinavý a ostrý. Nahrávka jakoby mě postupně opracovávala k obrazu svému, měnila mě, byla mým vlastním svědomím, stínem. Hrozně se mi líbí a obdivuji schopnost kapely složit zajímavý a neotřelý riff, skladbu, kterou si budete pamatovat. To zase tolik smeček neumí. DISCREATION do mě letos narvali obrovské množství emocí, nálad, na jemno nasekaných kousků tmy. Hltám jejich hudbu s chutí, prostupuje mnou. Podobné desky se neposlouchají ušima, ale spíše srdcem. Zmínit musím i skvělý obal a celkovou produkci. Němcům se podařilo stvořit monstrum, které vás zabije při prvním setkání. Pro nás, starší posluchače, vyloženě povinná záležitost.  Poctivý, studený a reálný death metal, který vám způsobí mráz v zádech. Skvěle!

Another lethal cocktail has been mixed up. From the darkest and coolest ingredients. To the death metal were added some thrash parts and at some parts even black screams. The result is a chalice filled with bitterness, cold, fear and death. I drink it very often and I really enjoy it. Those German death metal guys DISCREATION released a new album “End of Days” They will burn you to ashes!

The new album is very colourful which is very unusual with this kind of music. It hurts me like a sharp poison in my veins. I feel like standing on a top of a deserted rock and my face is being whipped with ice melodies. I want to jump down. I fall into the abyss, into the darkness, into the nothingness. It will take me a lot of time to get this album from my head.


With the album “End of Days”, you can tell that it was done by experienced musicians. It has a very good sound, the instruments are readable but at the same time it is dirty and sharp. This album gradually reshapes me into something it wants me to be. It changed me, it was my own conscience, my shadow. I really like and admire the ability of this band to compose amazing and original riffs. Songs which are easy to remember. There is not a lot of bands who can do that. This year, DISCREATION recorded an album full of emotions, moods, pieces of darkness which are finely chopped. I am so into their music, it goes through me. Similar albums are not supposed to be listened by your ears but heart. I have to say that the cover is amazing and the whole production also. Those Germans managed to create a monster which will kill you at the first sight. For us, older listeners, it is a strict obligatory. Real, cold and hones death metal which will make you shiver. Excellent!

 Rozemlet na masokostní moučku, zničený a rozdrcený. Jako bych prošel tou nejpoctivější linkou lidské kafilerie. Grind! Tentokrát z Čech, s ostrou příměsí drsného severu. Pojď má milá, zatančíme si spolu bosí na starých střepech. Leskne se naše krev na zdech malého klubu, tančíme dál. Hraje nám totiž nové album pražských BOWEL FUCK.

 Přiznám se, nečekal jsem to. Na rovinu, z grindu si opravdu hodně vybírám. Jsem jako nějaký zvrácený gurmán, který si do žil žádnou špínu nenarve. Jen kvalitu. A musím říci, že "Fragments" mě rozsekalo již při prvním poslechu. BOWEL FUCK jsou věrni odkazu švédských NASUM, GADGET, finských ROTTEN SOUND, samozřejmě s nezbytnou příměsí NAPALM DEATH. To vše ještě navíc s pořádným crustovým nádechem. Výsledkem, dvakrát podrženým, je pak album, které si prostě musíte zamilovat.



Marně přemýšlím, co bych kapele vytkl. Zvuk je parádně špinavý, evokující frézování drážek do vašich mozků. Obal se také povedl. Zbývá snad jen častá inspirace výše zmíněnými vzory. Jenže přátelé, stvořit dnes něco absolutně originálního snad ani nejde. Nakonec je stejně nejdůležitější energie a síla, kterou z desky cítíte a té mají BOWEL FUCK na rozdávání. Působí jako odjištěný vlak, který právě vjel na kolej plnou nebohých lidí. Líbí se mi tlak a takový ten správný výraz plný šílenství, který mají poctivé grindové desky obsahovat. Takže můj milý čtenáři, pokud máš chuť na pořádně surový grind té nejvyšší kvality a rád skáčeš po hlavě do rotujícího mosh-pitu, tak neváhej, tahle deska ti vyrve vnitřnosti z těla! BOWEL FUCK tě rozemelou na prach! Skvělé album.

Grind to a meat-bone meal, destroyed and crushed. I feel like going through the most honest line of human rendezvous. Grind! This time we are talking about Czech band with sharp mixture of rugged north. Come on my dear, let´s dance together without shoes on old pieces of glass. Our blood shines on the walls of a small club and we continue to dance. There is an album playing by a Prague band BOWEL FUCK.

I have to admit that I was really surprised. Honestly, I am really picky in case of grind. I am like some kind of a perverse gourmand who is careful about what dirt he puts in his veins. He just likes a good music. And I will say that “Fragments” totally crushed me with the first listening. BOWEL FUCK are faithful to bands like Swedish NASUM, GADGET, and Finnish ROTTEN SOUND and of course they have the great addition of NAPALM DEATH. All of this and even more with crusty feeling. The result is this album which you will have to fall in love with.

I should probably criticise the band, at least a little bit but I cannot find anything. The sound is nicely dirty, evoking milling of grooves in your brains. The cover is also great. There is only the frequent inspiration by the previously mentioned bands. But friends, today it is almost impossible to create something absolutely original. In the end, the most important thing is the power and energy which you can feel from the album and BOWEL FUCK have a lot of it. They are like a train which just has went on a rail which is full of people. I like the pressure and the great expression full of madness which should always be in grind albums. So, my dear readers, if you want to listen to a real raw grind of the highest quality and you like to jump to rotating mosh-pit, then do not hesitate because this album will tear your insides from your body! BOWEL FUCK will grind you to dust! Great album!

 Vybuchla mi v rukou nálož dynamitu, utrhla mi paže i hlavu. Potácím se temnotou, nemrtvý a hledám svůj klid. Neradno si zahrávat s výbušnou směsí, neradno je poslouchat thrash metal ostrý jako břitva.

 Při poslechu novinky dánských IMPALERS si připadám jako zavalený v kamenolomu. Útočí na mě ostré hroty riffů starého dobrého thrashe ze všech stran. Podléhám mu. Já, starý hrobník, který vyrůstal v dobách, kdy byl tenhle styl na vrcholu si novou desku "The Celestial Dictator" těchto mladých maniaků neskutečně užívám. Co na tom, že čerpají ze starých thrashových knih? Důležitá je energie, síla a touha zničit hudbou svět. A to umí  IMPALERS na výbornou.
"The Celestial Dictator" je po zvukové stránce skvělé, obal vynikající, náhodě nebylo ponecháno vůbec nic. Všechno mi sedí v jednom perfektním celku a řeže mě do břicha jako ostrý skalpel. Pánové se volně inspirují ARTILLERY, KREATOR, SODOM, starou METALLICOU, BATTERY, DEATH ANGEL. Zkrátka a dobře, jedná se o hrubozrnný thrash metal, který vás smete z povrchu zemského. Nezapomíná se ale ani na melodie a občasné heavy metalové vsuvky jsou velmi chutným kořením. Pánové v sobě mají obrovský náboj, nebojí se do toho opřít a zbourat zdi v širokém okolí. Novinka je tlakovou thrash metalovou vlnou, šíleným tsunami, které vás doslova porazí! Opravdu si připadám, že mi právě v rukou bouchlo několik kilo TNT! Masakr! Thrash! Vynikající nahrávka!

A dynamite exploded in my hand and torn off my arms and head. I am shivering in the darkness, undead and I am looking for my peace. It is not advised to play with explosive mixtures, you should not listen to thrash metal which is sharp like a knife. 

When I listen to the new album by Danish band IMPALERS, I feel like I am huddled in a quarry. Sharp riffs´ blades of the good old thrash attack me from all sides. I succumb to it. Me, an old gravedigger who grew up in the days when this style was on the top, I really enjoy this album “The Celestial Dictator” by those young madmen. Who cares that they draw inspiration from old thrash books? What is important is the energy, power and desire to destroy the world by their music. And IMPALERS know how to do that.

“The Celestial Dictator” has a great sound and cover, the whole album is amazing. Everything fits together in a perfect whole and it cuts my stomach like a sharp scalpel. Those gentlemen are freely inspired by ARTILLERY, KREATOR, SODOM, old METALLICA, BATTERY, DEATH ANGEL. In short, this is a coarse thrash metal that will sweep you from this world. They do not forget about melodies either and there are some heavy metal parts and these are tasty spices. Those guys has a great power in them, they are not afraid to lean on it and break walls in a wide area. The new album is a pressured thrash metal wave, crazy tsunami which will literally beats you! I really feel like a few tons of TNT has exploded in my hand! Massacre! Thrash! An outstanding recording!

 Mezi starými náhrobky se vznáší hustá mlha. Umíráček zvoní, z nedaleké márnice jsou slyšet podivné zvuky. Je půlnoc a já čekám na prvního nemrtvého. Ze země náhle vystřelí kostnatá ruka, už je zde, mezi námi! Vypadá to, že záhrobí vydalo další svědectví. Do uší mi hraje novinka německých CASKET. Pravý nefalšovaný death metal!

 Ozvěny ze záhrobí, dunivý starý smrtící kov. Kdo bude další na řadě? Tančím nekonečný tanec s těmi nejkrásnějšími zombie. "Unearthed" je albem plným klasických motivů, velmi dobrého zvuku a zapamatovatelných valivých melodií. Smrt si dává rande s peklem. Oceňuji temnou atmosféru, šílenství v očích i patinu rozpadajících se plesnivých rakví. Zastavte své kroky v dnešním šíleném světě a slyšte hudbu nemrtvých!



"Unearthed" je poctivou death metalovou nahrávkou. Opravdu připomíná noční procházku po vašem oblíbeném hřbitově. Tam někde mezi hroby musela být stvořena a tam její síla vynikne nejvíce. Je ale také pravdou, že nepřináší nic nového. Všechno zde již bylo a nápady nejsou z nejoriginálnějších. Jenže komu to vadí? Vždyť nejdůležitější je nakonec stejně nálada. A ta je na desce dokonale mrtvolná. Tradice je zde smíchána se zkaženou krví, odhodláním a zkušenostmi. CASKET opět jasně dokázali, že perfektně rozumí hrobnickému řemeslu. Výsledkem je nahrávka, která ctí kořeny stylu takovým způsobem, že vám pukne lebka tlakem. Poctivý death metal staré školy, který zabíjí na potkání! Velmi dobře!

There is a dense fog among the old tombstones. The dying bell tolling, and strange sounds come from the nearby mortuary. It's midnight and I'm waiting for the first undead. A skeletal hand suddenly flies from the ground, he's here, among us! It looks like the tomb murmurs. The novelty from German CASKET plays in my ears. Real true death metal!

Echoes from the tombstones, tantalizing old deadly metal. Who's next in line? I dance endless dance with the most beautiful zombies. "Unearthed" is an album full of classic motifs, very good sound and memorable rolling melodies. Death makes a date with hell. I appreciate the dark atmosphere, madness in the eyes and patina of decaying mouldy coffins. Stop your steps in today's mad world and hear the music of the undead!

"Unearthed" is an honest death metal record. It really reminds you of a night walk around your favourite cemetery. Somewhere there between the tombs had to be created. But also is true that it does not bring anything new. Everything has been here and the ideas are not the most original. But who cares? After all, the most important thing is finally the mood. And that's perfectly deadly. Tradition is mixed with rotten blood, determination and experience. CASKET again clearly proved that they perfectly understand the craft of a graveyard. The result is an album that honours the roots of the style in such a way that your skull breaks with pressure. The honest death metal of the old school that kills at the meeting! Very good!

 Lidská mysl připomíná složitý labyrint. Občas na člověka padá divná tíseň, zdánlivě bez příčiny. Budí se ze sna, srdce mu málem vyskočí z hrudi a do očí se pomalu vkrádá strach. Pomalu nás obestírají temné síly, říkávali staří. Měli pravdu. Zlo je všude kolem nás, ale nejvíc je usazené v našich myslích. 

 Obřadní rituály padlých kněží, smutek opuštěných kostelů. Nikdo už dávno nevěří v toho pána na kříži. Rouhám se spolu s kapelou BURNING CHURCHES a velebíme odvrácenou stranu světa. Smějeme se všem slepým vírám a vyznáváme pravý nefalšovaný black death metal. Na tuhle smečku jsem narazil víceméně náhodou. Ihned mě zaujal jejich zvuk, jejich síla a touha po temnotě.



Na "Pulpit of Avarice" Američané citují ze starých black death metalových knih. Občas přidávají i špetku grindu, ale hlavně obrovskou hromadu špíny a prašivých kostí. Natlakované, utíkající momenty se střídají se studenými vyhrávkami. Vše je drsně naléhavé, uvěřitelné, doslova nasáklé zkaženou krví. Jedná se o druhé EP v pořadí a já si říkám, že by to chtělo dlouhohrající album a pořádný label. Baví mě vyhledávat v undergroundu zkažené kousky mokvající hudby a BURNING CHURCHES mě velmi mile překvapili. Smetli z povrchu zemského. Nebe zase hoří pekelným ohněm! Jezdci apokalypsy vyjeli opět jednou z podsvětí, aby zapálili náš nehodný svět. Ano, tahle deska mě baví a baví mě moc. Black death metalový rituál, u kterého shoří všechny kříže! Skvěle!

The human mind reminds a complicated labyrinth. Sometimes, there is a strange heaviness falling on you and it seems like no big deal. You will wake up from a dream, you heart almost jumps out of your body and you have fear in your eyes. As our ancestors used to say - there are dark forces slowly to us. And they were right. Evil is everywhere around us but it is in our minds the most. 

Ceremonial ritual of fallen priests, sadness of abandoned churches. Nobody no longer believes in that man on the cross. I blaspheme with the band BURNING CHURCHES and we pray to the other side of the world. We are laughing to all blind beliefs and we confess the true black death metal. I firstly found this band by a pure accident. I was immediately interested in their sound, strength and desire for darkness. 

On the album “Pulpit of Avarice” those Americans quote from the old black metal books. Occasionally, they add a pinch of grind and most importantly a huge amount of dirt and ashy bones. Pressurized, running moments are combined with cold parts. Everything is harshly urgent, believable and literally soaked with blood. This is their second EP in a row and I think to myself that they should have a long-played album and a great label. I enjoy looking for bad pieces of mouldy music in the underground and BURNING CHURCHES really surprised me. They swept me from the world. The sky is burning with the hell fire! The apocalypse riders came from the underworld again to burn our bad world. Yes, I really enjoy this album. Black death metal ritual which makes all crosses burn! Excellent!

A few questions – interview with black death metal band from USA - BURNING CHURCHES.

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play , etc.? 

Burning Churches was formed in 2012 when drummer Bill Bumgardner (Indian, Lord Mantis) Joined Guitar/vocalists Greg Gomer (Lord Mantis), and FOH engineer/guitar tech Bill Fraser. Shortly after Gomer’s departure, Keven Kalay joined on lead guitar to become an integral part of the band and writing process. We recorded ‘Defecation of the Tabernacle’ EP and released it in 2016. We started writing for ‘ Pulpit of avarice’ shortly after that release. In Ocober 2016, our drummer Bill committed suicide from a self inflicted shotgun to the head in his apartment in Chicago. We made the decision to keep the band together and finish the Pulpit of Avarice with our friend Garry Naples (Novembers Doom, Kastacyde,) on drums for the sessions. We’ve been rehearsing and writing with Matt Derosier in preparation for a split / single and show dates to be announced soon. 


Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

Getting used to the absence of our brother Bill and his motivation and sheer energy was extremely difficult. But we stuck together and began rehearsals with Garry and went straight into the recording studio at the Illinois Institute of Art, where Keven works as a professor, so we were able to get free time and frighten the staff. Jason Schmidt is our studio engineer and does an amazing job tracking, editing, and mixing. Tim Lange was Assistant Engineer helped us get everything setup and torn down. The production was a combination of Bill, Kev and Jason. Mixing done at RAX Trax Chicago by Jason Schmidt. Mastering was Collin Jordan at Boiler room Mastering.

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)? 

As of now, Pulpit of Avarice is available as a digital download and physical CD through our website. We hope to put it out on vinyl in the near future.We are also pleased to announce we are now on apple music as well!

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with? 

Bill Fraser and Keven Kalay are the main writers of lyrics. We are pretty democratic with material and art. If it serves the music first we do it. We throw out our ego because the music is what matters.The lyrical subject matter ranges from pure blasphemy to sci-fi horror, anarchism, insanity, witchery. Deep rooted symbolism and a blatant rejection and mockery of religious ideology and oppression is something that is natural to all of us. We fully endorse individualism and are in direct opposition to the oppressive nature of collective thinking. Herd mentality so to speak.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important? 

We have a few different logos. The cross logo was created by Ole Nichols, with micron pens, the ashes logo was Ian Hacker from Defecation, and the Pulpit logo was Bjorn Grasses from Germany, who does our t-shirt designs. Keven takes care of the website, burningchurches.net. Social networks are a medium of transmission for our blasphemous plague, but without them we would still exist.


Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

We are self-released so far, therefore underfunded, but we manage to get what we need accomplished.. We have a few labels we would love to be on and are fans of. 

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

We draw inspiration from a diverse array of dark music including classical and jazz. But a brief list of our metal influences are Morbid Angel, Yob, Death, Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, Mastodon, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Meshuggah, Gorguts, Dissection, Sepultura, Pantera. We are somewhat varied with our tastes in metal and you can hear the fusion of metal styles more fleshed out on the current Ep. 

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

We are currently unsigned but would not rule out a record deal. We submitted Defecation to a few labels, and we plan to with this EP as well. We feel no matter how big or small they should be fans first and have a love for the music. The business side of things is easier if there is passion among the label, and the bands who are signed to it.


How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best? 

We’ve played many shows in or around Chicago. We are already working on the logistics of shows all around our neighboring area, as well as, touring opportunities in neighboring states. We have had some memorable shows but play every night like its our last. 

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

We plan on going deeper and heavier into the dark, strange emotive sorcery of music and developing further, the chaos and darkness that fuel this band becoming ever maniacal and menacing! We never put boundaries on our creation. We will show you dark aspects of ourselves and you may discover something in yourself, along the way. We have had setbacks that could conquer lesser bands. You'll see our strength when you see us live! We feel this is the strongest incarnation of this unholy beast.
